The day after my last post I finally got a call from the personnel sergeant.  She didn’t have the best news to share, but not the worst either.

The good news is I “passed” the oral board.  As in got a passing score.  The bad news is they took the top eight scores and mine wasn’t one of them.  That’s part one.

Part two, is that my background for the dispatch position has been put on the “fast track”, along with one other person.  She also said that since deputies and dispatchers receive the same background investigation, should one or more of those top eight drop out for some reason there is a chance I could get bumped up to the deputy pool.  So, that was encouraging to hear.  I know of at least one person that did in fact withdraw themselves from consideration, and I know of one other who is sorta on the fence, my classmate.

Personally, I don’t see why you would spend all the time and money to put yourself through the academy only to turn down what looks like a sure job offer.  I’ve talked with her about it, and her reasons do make sense.  But I also wonder why start the journey if you don’t intend to finish it?  I guess things change over the course of a year and when a big life change is staring you in the face I suppose it give everyone pause.

So that’s where its at.  More waiting.  Oh well.  It’s not like I don’t have things to keep me busy in the meantime.
